For example, left atrial dilation in an asymptomatic patient with good exercise tolerance and no cardiac history may be considered normal; similarly, in professional athletes, sizes often fall into gray zones.
Mastering Doppler Modes
When working with color Doppler (CFD), the specialist selects a color map and its correspondence to flow direction. Most laboratories use the BART scheme (Blue Away Red Toward): flow towards the transducer is red, away from the transducer is blue. The optimal Doppler angle is parallel to the flow (0° or 180°); turbulent flow appears as a mosaic pattern.
